Criterion A

This portfolio addresses the issue of how social networking is abused, by users on the internet. A type of this abuse is people’s privacy on the internet and the fact that it isn’t quite clear to the users what privacy rights they have. An example of this abuse is when the social networking site facebook opened up to the public allowing people who are not members of facebook to view some of the members information. The IT system which is involved with this issue is the internet, and it is an important system to society as society uses it for communication, to run business and to spread views, ideas, and knowledge. The internet is growing and more of the public are using it and social networking is especially expanding.
The internet is used in both positive and negative ways. A way in which the internet is positive is that it allows people to have fast access to resources online, helps people communicate, and allows people to shop online. A negative issue with the internet however, is that the public can quite easy access other people’s privet information. This is because people give out information on the internet quite willingly not realizing that anyone with internet access could access it. Social networking is the main way in which people can access information as when you sign up for a social networking site there are certain forms you fill out and people do not understand the ways in which such information can be abused.
